What is Cuttlefish Casting?

Cuttlefish casting is a traditional jewellery-making technique that uses the bone of a cuttlefish as a natural mould. Found along UK beaches, cuttlefish bone has a soft, organic texture that captures intricate details when molten silver is poured into it.

I carefully prepare each piece of bone, then cast recycled sterling silver into the surface. The result is a beautifully textured finish, with delicate, wave-like patterns that echo the movement of the sea.

Each casting is completely unique—no two pieces are ever the same.

Handmade in the UK Using Recycled Sterling Silver

Sustainability plays a central role in my work. I personally collect all my own cuttlefish off of my local beaches after they have been washed up. I use recycled sterling silver, melting and reforming it to create new designs. This not only reduces environmental impact but also ensures every piece has a story behind it.

By combining recycled silver with the washed up bones I collected from UK beaches, my jewellery reflects both craftsmanship and a deep connection to the natural world.

Inspired by the British Coastline

The textures left by cuttlefish casting often resemble ripples in sand or gentle ocean waves—subtle reminders of the coastlines where these materials were found.

Truly One-of-a-Kind Jewellery

Because the cuttlefish castings are shaped by nature, no two pieces can ever be identical. That’s what makes handmade jewellery so special—each item is individual, just like the person wearing it.

Whether you’re looking for a meaningful gift or a piece that connects you to the sea, handmade sterling silver cuttlefish  jewellery offers something truly unique.
